Implements a comprehensive Internal Safety Audit Program that is compliant with Federal and State requirements. Conducts Internal Safety Audits to assess the adequacy and compliance to the following statutes and standards: Rail Fixed Guideway Systems, State Safety Oversight, the Georgia Program Standard for Rail Transit Safety & Security Oversight, and the MARTA Agency Safety Plan. Provides formal written reports to the Manager of Continuous Improvement for action by senior level Authority managers.
Prepares reports, as required for governmental agencies and American Public Transportation Association (APTA).
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsible for the implementation of a comprehensive Internal Safety Audit Program that is compliant with the Federal and State
Conducts audits of systems, equipment, and facilities to ensure implementation and compliance with MARTA Agency Safety Plan and MARTA policies and procedures. Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local laws regarding Safety
Provides formal written reports to the Manager of Continuous Improvement for action by senior level Authority
Prepares reports, as required for governmental agencies and APTA (American Public Transportation Association).
Reviews and analyzes data associated with established safety performance metrics for trend analyses and to recommend corrective
Assist with the implementation and coordination of audit related activities associated with Agency Safety Plan. Solicits input from all relevant departments for the required language and content for the program plan to meet State and Federal
Provides technical assistance to functional areas concerning safety management programs and makes corrective action recommendations.

Follows the work practices and standard operating procedures for this position. Uses and/or wears the appropriate equipment, protective devices or clothing that MARTA requires. Reports health and safety concerns to supervisors and report any on- going/unresolved health and safety concerns to the Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC) co-chair, JHSC representative or safety representative.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree in the Physical Sciences, Biology, Chemistry or a related scientific discipline is required. In lieu of a degree, directly related work experience may be substituted on a year-for-year
Six years of directly related work experience in the principles, practices and techniques used in the conduct of environmental safety surveys, inspections and accident
Must have knowledge and experience in techniques used in determining and implementing corrective/preventive
Must be able to interpret environmental safety standards and codes and apply them to the assessment of conditions evaluated during
Certification as Safety Auditor is
Must be proficient in the use of personal computer and associated software
Candidate must possess strong written and verbal communications
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Certification as Safety Auditor is desired.
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
Position requires driving an automobile or light truck, working at a desk and operating a computer and telephone. Position also requires inspecting maintenance facilities
including undeveloped areas. This will include, but not be limited to, the ability to climb ladders and stairs, and traversing rugged terrain. Must be able to use personal protective equipment where required. Must be able to work in all types of environmental conditions (wet, hot, cold, dry and dusty).
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Work is performed in a standard office environment, and at various MARTA locations/facilities/construction sites.
A valid Georgia driver’s license and the ability to operate a motor vehicle are required for the duration of employment.
Must be capable of documenting industrial worksite inspections and audits through various means, which include, but are not limited to, still and video camera, laptop computer, tape recorder, handwritten notes and drawings.
Personnel in this class will be required to successfully complete MARTA Wayside Access training and may be called upon at any time to enter the wayside in performance of assigned duties. This will require knowledge of and ability to perform train-flagging procedures to control train movement for the protection of the individual or others on the wayside.
