The City of Champaign seeks qualified candidates for a career opportunity as an Engineering Technician II in the Public Works Department.
Responsibilities of Position
This position performs skilled technical work in the office and field in connection with City infrastructure programs and projects. Primary responsibilities include the creation and maintenance of City infrastructure geographical information system (GIS) layers; preparation of drawings, maps, plans, and plats; review of legal descriptions; archiving plans and documents; and assigning and maintaining street addresses.

Associates degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Construction Technology, GIS, or a related field and four years of GIS experience including map creation, GIS analysis, and database manipulation experience OR
Any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
Good knowledge of relevant engineering practices.
Ability to plan, organize, implement and control projects.
Ability to work outdoors in adverse weather conditions.
Ability to lift and carry items as heavy as 30 lbs., with or without accommodation.
Valid state-issued driver’s license and good driving record.
Ability to prepare CAD and GIS drawings from field notes and plats of record.
Good knowledge of and ability to apply mathematics principles, including Algebra and Geometry, to perform design calculations.
Ability to prepare and review plans and specifications for routine or complex capital improvement projects and development projects.
Experience with ESRI ArcGIS Desktop software.
Experience with drafting software such as Autodesk AutoCAD and/or Bentley Systems MicroStation or other similar programs.
Good knowledge of drafting and surveying.
Drug screening will be required.
