Associate Project Manager

Summary Reporting to the Director of Project Management, the Associate Project Manager is responsible for leading projects in various categories and settings including: Programming and Preliminary Design Projects - Feasibility studies, programming studies, space allocation and assessment, and preliminary conceptual design and planning. This category of assignments incorporates explorations and investigations necessary to clarify and define the exact nature of a proposed space or project. Projects include evaluations of quantity and quality of space needed for new, expanding, or changing programs. In addition, the development and coordination of Information Technology projects that impact all aspects of the academic and operational segments of the University within an integrated team environment. New Construction – Design and construction of general and large-scale projects that support the educational mission of Midwestern University. Projects include single and multi-story buildings. Space types might include among others, classrooms and meeting rooms, offices, residential, laboratory, cafeteria, recreational, and clinic spaces. Small Scale Projects - Design and construction of small, relatively simple, projects triggered by a change in function of existing space, refurbishment of academic space, or projects for which the scope is limited in cost, area, or complexity. Projects tend to incorporate a room, suite of rooms, or building type of relatively straightforward parameters. Infrastructure Projects - Design and construction of projects where the scope is primarily related to mechanical, electrical, plumbing, "HVAC", building automation, utility systems, communications, or any other infrastructure-related component. Capital Project Planning – Collect and consolidate accurate and independent condition data across an entire portfolio of facilities. Produce quantitative and qualitative assessments to support capital planning decisions aligned with organizational objectives. Conduct requirements definition and needs analysis to aid in the strategic planning of technology solutions that serve the University.

Education and/or Experience Bachelor’s degree in project management, information technology, construction management, engineering or architecture or related field. Must have at least 3 years of experience in planning, design, construction and project management related duties and activities, preferably in higher education or healthcare facilities. Language Skills High skills: Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or governmental regulations. The ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedures manuals. The ability to effectively present information to top management and boards of directors. Reasoning Ability High skills: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form. Mathematical Ability Intermediate skills: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interests, commissions and proportions, percentages, area, circumference and area and to interpret graphs.

This individual will be visually inspecting work in process which includes but is not limited to traversing significantly uneven surfaces and climbing ladders. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include vision correctable to 20/20 in one eye, hearing correctable to normal.
