The Architect of the Capitol (AOC), Capitol Power Plant Utility Distribution Division is seeking an exceptional Supervisory General Engineer who will serve as Assistant Director of the Utility Distribution Division (UDD). The candidate will provide leadership to the UDD and management of operations, maintenance and repair of utility distribution systems and tunnels involved in distributing steam and chilled water from the Capitol Power Plant (CPP) to the Capitol Campus.

Provides supervision of the Utilities Distribution Division staff to ensure all utility distribution systems are properly operated and maintained. Provides guidance on engineering standards and code requirements. Develops engineering solutions to technical problems, which are incapable of being resolved by subordinates. Typical problems require the need to perform extensive mathematical and technical calculations in engineering to include civil, mechanical, electrical or general engineering.
Performs administrative and technical supervisory functions for subordinates. Assigns duties to, and evaluates employee performance. Manages the UDD’s budget and staffing workload, including scheduling. Develops performance requirements for subordinates and ensures a mutual understanding of the performance standards.
Performs planning necessary to accomplish technical, professional engineering and maintenance functions for programs essential to utility distribution daily operations. Monitors utility distribution maintenance functions for efficiency and safety and ensures all regulatory requirements are followed. Oversees utility distribution maintenance activities to ensure compliance with all applicable environmental policies and regulations.
Manages and supports daily maintenance activities such as planning, coordinating and controlling utility distribution maintenance and repairs in accordance with written requirements, procedures and schedules. Coordinates the development of utility distribution procedures and instructions, including safety procedures, statutory regulations, outage schedules and routine test and inspection schedules.
Utilizes program and planning documents in determining facility requirements for programmed units and activities within the Capitol Power Plant (CPP). Accomplishes long and short range planning for replacement of equipment including contingency operations for potential emergency conditions.
Determines operational trends and forecasts requirements. Determines and coordinates acquisition and use of money, work force, equipment and material. Plans required organizational structures to establish the essential functional elements necessary to carry out engineering responsibilities most effectively and economically.
Develops and maintains effective operations, maintenance and engineering staff relationships with tenant organizations being served. Presents briefings on engineering, maintenance, and projects.
