KDG Construction Consulting is seeking an experienced Senior Construction Manager for a complex design-build aviation project in the Southern California area. The Sr. Construction Manager will oversee various design-build construction projects in different stages of development ranging from pre-construction, construction, to project closeout. The CM is expected to maintain a positive working relationship with the client, stakeholders and the project team. The position requires a high degree of autonomy with little supervision, and the ability to supervise contractors, design team consultants, and vendors.
Duties and Responsibilities
Provide construction management support for the construction of various airport facilities as part of an overall modernization
Lead in the preparation of the development of construction work plans
Assist in vendor selection, manage progress of contractors, report on progress, review/process change orders, develop and complete punch lists, oversee project completion and review of close out documents
Monitor contractor schedule and budget and report on progress
Prepare memos, reports, briefings, presentations and other client deliverables
Provide design build team with tracking and reporting of logistics plans, phasing plans and construction activities
Review monthly invoices for the payment application approval process
Review design drawings, specifications, shop drawings, submittals, and requests for information
Lead weekly construction meetings and provide follow-up documentation
Propose value engineering solutions to reduce -project costs
Use constructability analysis to prevent or reduce errors, delays, and project costs
Provide cost estimating and change order management
Additional responsibilities may include assisting with design coordination activities, coordination of client purchased items, creating monthly dashboard reports, and program budgeting
Essential Skills and Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in architectural, engineering or construction-related field
Minimum of 15 years of experience working as an owner’s representative on vertical Design-Build projects. Progressive design-build experience is preferred.
Previous aviation/terminal project experience is preferred.
Demonstrated leadership and problem-solving skills, excellent oral and written communication skills
Ability to be “hands-on” in the field and interact with multiple stakeholders to pro-actively understand and anticipate their needs
Extensive experience in all phases of landside project development from inception through design, bid, construction, and occupancy of capital building projects
Highly skilled in contract analyses, financial and schedule management, claims avoidance, and dispute resolution
