The Central Office Construction Division is seeking a talented team member to serve as the Construction Quality Improvement Coordinator for transportation projects under construction in the Hampton Roads District. The selected candidate will support the delivery of VDOT’s construction and maintenance contracts as a member of VDOT’s Construction Quality Improvement Program (CQIP) team. Duties include, but are not limited to: managing, planning, and conducting comprehensive quality improvement studies; identifying, analyzing, and recommending required quality improvements; assisting management with determining effectiveness of quality improvement recommendations; providing training through formal and informal programs; and conducting research and evaluations of construction operation means and methods.
Work experience and/or comprehensive understanding in the following areas: construction, contract administration, and project management; applying construction principles, practices, and methods; applying state and federal specifications, regulations, policies, and procedures; ability to schedule, prioritize, and complete multiple complex assignments within scheduled timeframes; ability to work proficiently with Microsoft software products and Google Suite. Demonstrated ability to: read and interpret highway construction plans, specifications, contracts, standards, and policies; communicate information effectively orally and in writing with diverse audiences; coordinate with field personnel to document issues; lead presentations, and conduct meetings. Skilled in organized document management and the use of computers and software applications to include analysis tools.
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or related field; or equivalent experience and/or training may substitute for degree. Possesses current material certifications for soil and aggregate compaction, asphalt concrete pavement, hydraulic cement concrete, pavement markings and markers, nuclear safety, slurry, and surface treatment.
Fingerprint-based Criminal History background check and DMV record check are required.
Positions physically working within district boundaries, including those that administratively report to Central Office, may be assigned to emergency response duties at the discretion of the District Administrator.
