Performs bridge and road construction inspection. Position duties include: coordinating, assigning and conducting on-site inspections of road and bridge construction to monitor the quality of the work being performed by the contractor and quality control of the materials utilized in the project for conformance to approved plans and specifications; supervising, assigning, coordinating and reviewing for compliance required materials testing as specified in the plans and specifications of projects; representing the County as the principal inspector on large and complex road and bridge projects; coordinating and conducting safety inspections of existing bridges in accordance with mandated timetables and requirements; applying civil engineering principles to solve problems as they arise in the construction process including making "in-field' engineering decisions in collaboration with the Construction Engineer to generate necessary change orders. This position typically serves as a lead on large scale, complex engineering projects; and/or lead worker to lower level engineers; and/or supervisor to the technicians. Licensed as a Professional Engineer (PE) or Construction Manager Professional; or
Engineer in Training (EIT) and four years of related engineering* experience working under the direct supervision of a licensed Professional Engineer; or
Bachelor's Degree in related engineering field and four years related engineering* work experience working under the direct supervision of a licensed Professional Engineer (PE); and
One year of lead worker or supervisory experience.
